Abstract: Does the idea of owning a fabulous, flamingo-pink luxury home appeal to you? Then hurry to Palm Springs, California, and don't go away.

It used to belong to the "Kardashians of the 60s and 70s".

This wonderful mid-century modern estate - where the world-famous Gabor sisters of Hollywood lived - is now for sale for $3.8 million.

Eighth Avenue real estate agent Brandon Holland gives a basic overview of the desert oasis where Magda and Sasha lived for decades.

Holland drew comparisons to the Kardashians, noting that the Garbo sisters have 22 husbands between them.

"There's nothing like it in all of Palm Springs," Holland said of the house, adding that the view is amazing." It will never be replicated."

The striking property sits at the top of a trendy neighbourhood known as "Little Tuscany".

Believe it or not, the current owner - design diva of the desert Tracy Turco - has added even more glamour and glitz to this three-bedroom, four-bathroom abode.

Turco is known for her maximalist, mid-century design work in boutique hotels such as Tiki, Art and Cheetah.

She has also worked on a number of private residences, including Tiki House, which is also on the market.

Turco actually lives in this stylish, 3,441 sq ft space, which she purchased in 2020 for $1.74 million.

She has tried to retain the fabulous Gabe vibe and objects while adding her own touches.

The pink exterior, for example, was Turco's idea. When the house was built in 1964, it was a white lighthouse on a hill.

Inside, Turco added more hot pink; stylish black and white striped curtains and awnings; brightly coloured upholstery; and even a dazzling gold bath.

Turco has offset the glow of her fabrics with custom-designed wallpaper, combined with vivid prints and shades.

But there is no improving on certain original features, such as the home's classic stone floors, Hollywood Regency detailing and the abundance of mirrors. Some of these mirrors are even embossed with Magda's initials.

Other original features include two portraits of Magda; her gleaming black grand piano; various chandeliers; and ornate wrought-iron pool furniture - reupholstered by a professional, of course.

Holland says the house sale includes paintings, furniture and accessories.

The master bedroom wing is perfectly suited to any sophisticated glamour girl, with a sitting room (or office), dressing room, powder room and luxurious bathroom overlooking the pool and desert.

The kitchen is also a bright sight. It has modern Viking appliances including a 60" double oven cooker plus a griddle, fridge, wine cooler, dishwasher and warming drawer.

The home also has unique period features such as ornate ceilings, glass cabinets and a Hungarian rotisserie oven.

Holland says his favourite feature is the home's expansive terrace overlooking the mosaic tiled swimming pool.

The views are spectacular, he notes, "because you're at the furthest end of Little Tuscany that you can be. You don't have anything above you".
